Session 25 - A blind hobgoblin warlord
Day 47, 17 Kython, continued
The party continued exploring, and encountered another drider.
They then crossed back over the river, all except Meera (who swam) paying a coin to a skeleton using a pole to push a gondola.
The party came to the town where they had been ambushed by the drow, but entering this time from the south. Exploring the town the party came across 12 pathetic troglodytes, who they ignored, and a magical mirror in which a demon appeared and spoke in abyssal, saying to Meera ‘I know who you are’.
After looting the area, the party explored further, and after coming to some doors that were magically locked and unopenable, encountered a hobgoblin guard post. After speaking to the guards, the party were escorted to the leader of the hobgoblins, the warlord Azrok. Azrok was accompanied by worgs, hobgoblins and bugbears.
After some discussions, the party agreed that they would not act against Azrok and would continue to destroy the drow and continue their quest to clear undermountain. Azrok told them to register and obtain papers, which would would allow access to his town’s facilities.
During the conversation, the party discerned that he was blind. After the discussion, Azrok’s wife, Lurkana, took them to be registered, then to their guest chambers, where she requested that they retrieve a dagger stolen from Azrok that allowed him to see. She said that the dagger was stolen by some Duergar, and their trail led to Skullport, which was relatively close.
The party then spoke with a mind-flayer, acting as the ambassador to Skullport. The mind-flayer revealed that Skullport is a stronghold of Xanathar, and that it would be dangerous for the party to travel there.
They party rested uneventfully in the guest quarters.
Day 48, 18 Kython
The party decided to continue exploring elsewhere on the level rather than travel to skullport. Mumble used his knock spell on the locked doors found a room filled with huge granite cubes and a massive sleeping xorn. After defeating the xorn, the party investigated the cubes, one of which turned out to contain the alabaster throne that Volo had mentioned. The party carefully carried the throne up to the first level, and then removed it from Undermountain, where Volo promised to track down the elves.
While in Waterdeep, Meera went to collect her suit of magical armour, but was furious when it turned out that the seller was demanding a higher price. Begrudgingly, the price was paid. Shyntithra managed to obtain a magical bow without complication.
Day 49, 19 Kython
The next day, Mumble went to collect his magical cloak of arachnida from a seedy tavern near the docks. The seller appeared furtive. Although Mumble followed the seller, his short gnomish legs could not keep up with the man’s hurried strides, and he managed to get away.
